Rough, uneven, cambered terrain requires a shoe that feels like an extension of the foot, a snug, secure fit but without restriction. The Salomon Fellraiser does this perfectly.
The 8mm multi-directional chevron’s on the Fellraiser’s sole ensure your footing is secure on any terrain....from wet, sloppy mud to rough rocky outcrops my feet have gripped the ground, not a slip or a slide in sight.
The light, breathable mesh upper keeps the weight of the shoe down, a barely noticeable 286g (UK 8.5) to be precise. The mesh allows water to drain quickly too, maintaining their lightness and ensuring they dry quickly.
In summer, the mesh should keep your feet cool and aired – although summer hasn’t appeared yet to allow me to prove this!
The quicklace system, sensifit system and overlays on the upper hold the foot in place perfectly – offering a feeling of gentle support around the midfoot, while the toebox offers sufficient room to allow toes to spread slightly and work as they should.
The Fellraiser feels incredibly stable, probably due to its relatively low (6mm) heel to toe drop, you really feel connected with the ground – vital for confidence when moving fast over mixed terrain.
Cushioning and protection can often be neglected in off-road race shoes but the Salomon Fellraiser offers ample cushioning for any terrain and longer runs, and feels adequate for tarmac sections (which all of us face at some point). The level of cushioning has given me confidence that my (currently fragile) foot is well protected from the unexpected dangers (stones, tree stumps etc.) lurking on the trails.
