Raidlight is a brand synonymous with ultra running and they have a very strong reputation for producing high quality, effective gear that has been designed to meet the demands of the toughest events worldwide...
Building on the success of their OLMO Range Raidlight have this year introduced a vest style range of packs meaning they fit better than ever, move even less when running and yet still retain the cavernous carrying capacity and unique features of the previous models. In addition to the Raidlight Ultra Vest OLMO 5 and 20 Litre packs also new this year is the Ultra Raid 30 which has a heritage firmly in the extreme multi-day races such as the Marathon des Sables.
RAIDLIGHT ULTRA VEST OLMO 5L
With a 5 Litre capacity the Raidlight Ultra Vest Olmo 5 is the perfect size for long days out in the hills when you need to carry essentials supplies, emergency equipment and fluid. There is certainly ample space for full body cover, food etc.
The main back compartment has a full zip surround for easy access to all contents as well as a stretch mesh pocket on the outside covered by a top flap with an integrated zip pocket. Pole holders are also positioned on the back to allow poles to be comfortably carried diagonally across the back. But these are just the start of the storage features...
...on each hip wing there are secure zip closure pockets with the right hand side featuring a two tier design with one pocket being specifically designed with a headphone port for your phone/music player...
...on the front of the shoulder straps there are a further two zipped pockets both with additional stretch mesh pockets on the front being ideal for quick access to energy gels...
Hydration is taken care of by the two front mounted bottle holders and bottles on each shoulder strap positioned to sit flat against the chest and each holder also has two stretch mesh pockets on the sides and a wide elasticated band on the front to stash essentials quickly until they can be stored in the main compartment. The Ultra Vest Olmo 5 can also accommodate a bladder within the main compartment with hose access via the shoulder straps...The major design update for this years OLMO range is with the packs being a vest style. The benefits of this is that the pack fits more like a piece of clothing rather than an accessory. To completement the light airy shoulder straps with soft trims, the back of the Ultra Vest OLMO 5 is luxuriously padded for additional comfort with an air flow channel down the centre. For a precise fit can be achieved thanks to the adjustment straps at the base of the shoulder straps and across the chest.
RAIDLIGHT ULTRA VEST OLMO 20L
With a very similar concept and design to the 5 litre version the Ultra Vest Olmo 20 Litre has an ideal capacity for traveling fast and light on epic multi-day adventures. It also incorporates the vest style and is made from the same ultra light yet remarkably tough materials but offers extra carrying capacity...
The main compartment swallows as much kit as you will need and the external stretch mesh pockets on each side and back together with bungee cords on each side mean additional equipment can also be carried.
We especially like the inclusion of compression straps over the shoulders to ensure that as the volume of kit being carried reduces you can cinch the pack down to reduce unwanted movement and bounce. As well as the two front bottle holders and bottles the Ultra Vest OLMO 20L also comes equipped with an internal bladder...
...another addition is the inclusion of a 'Jack' connection running from the media pocket on the hip to enable you to instantly connect your phone or MP3 device...
RAIDLIGHT ULTRA RAID 30
Also new this year is the Ultra Raid 30 which builds on the success Raidlight has had in events such as the Marathon des Sables. With a huge 30 litre carrying capacity the Ultra Raid will carry everything you need and in maximal comfort.
The large main compartment is complimented by multiple external pockets and mesh pouches similar to the Ultra Vests but with increased capacity...
An additional bladder can be carried in the outer back pocket as well as one inside the main compartment enabling significantly more fluids to be transported when conditions require it.
This is in addition to the standard front mounted bottles...
The main compartment conceals several mesh separators to keep kit apart as well as a removable mat in the back for sitting/sleeping. The major asset of the Ultra Raid 30 is its comfort. The back and shoulder straps have excellent cushioning and the added waist belt in addition to the chest strap keeps the pack in place and further reduces movement.
The compression straps over the shoulders and bungee cord also enable you to compress the load you are carrying to keep it all in place...
All in all Raidlight really do have every base covered when it comes to feature packed ultra running packs. Nothing that is included is a gimmick, everything has a race proven use and most importantly the fit and comfort of the packs is exceptional. You can see our whole Raidlight collection here.
