GU Energy Gels pack 100 calories of rapidly absorbed carbohydrate energy into a small, easy to carry package. Using a mix of maltodextrin and fructose carbohydrates means that carbohydrate absorption is maximised as the two use different pathways to enter the body and also minimises risk of stomach distress associated with high volumes of single source carbohydrates. The gels also contain electrolytes to replace those lost through sweat and also aid maintenance of hydration. As well as Amino acids (leucine, valine, isoleucine) which help to reduce mental fatigue and reduce muscle damage. Finally, some of the gels include caffeine to enhance focus and concentration and reduce the perception of effort. It is recommended to consume one gel 5 minutes before endurance exercise and then one gel every 45 minutes during exercise. Ensure you drink when taking the gels to ensure maximum absorption.
