Our View - Hoka Evo Jawz Men:
The Hoka Evo Jawz Men is a ground breaking off-road shoe for Hoka with a step away from their ‘maximal’ roots to a close fitting, dynamic and super aggressive mud eating shoe.
The brand new Evo Jawz is lightweight, just 204g with a low profile 3mm heel to toe drop of an efficient, responsive feel perfect for racing. The outsole is where the Jawz gets its name and it’s easy to see why. The shoe features 6mm lugs made from super sticky Vibram Megagrip rubber which provides exceptional traction on a wide range of terrain from deep mud to rocks.
Upper wise the Evo Jawz is designed to stand up to the technical and challenging terrain it is designed for with a strong, robust reinforced ‘rip-stop’ fabric that brushes of potentially damaging rocks and debris with confidence.
Despite its more minimal design the Evo Jawz hasn’t completely stepped away from what Hoka is best known for, that being comfort. The PROFLY midsole is still a very reasonable 21mm stack at the heel and 18mm at the forefoot meaning you still get a good level of cushioning.
We are really impressed with Hokas venture into the more aggressive, slightly less maximal world with the Evo Jawz and we think that this is a shoe that will be right at home in technical fell and mountain races.
