Our View - Scott Supertrac RC - Womens:
You want grip, comfort, speed and style? Look no further than the brand-new Scott Supertrac RC. Scott is building a very strong reputation in the trail running world for designing shoes that not only look good but also perform exceptionally and this latest model exemplifies this perfectly.
The Scott Supertrac RC has been built from the ground up with the input of Scott’s elite trail runners and everything that you need and want in a great off-road shoe has been addressed. Starting with the all-important outsole that is your connection to the ground the Scott tag line for the shoe is ‘controlled power’ and this is where the unique layout of studs comes in. The positioning and size of every stud has been designed in such a way that you have grip wherever you place your foot in Scott talk this is “360-degree traction” in use this means that you can be confident placing your foot on any surface at any speed. We have found the Supertrac RC grip to be up to pretty much anything we have thrown at it except exceptionally deep mud but it really excels on rocky technical terrain.
Speed is nothing if there isn’t any comfort and although the Supertrac RC has been designed for high paced performance the cushioning in the midsole hasn’t been overly compromised and the feel is a perfect balance between responsiveness and cushioning. There is certainly ample of protection against trail debris without a loss of feel for the terrain underfoot. This makes the Supertrac RC ideal for events of hugely varying lengths from short sprint events to ultra races. A real around success and with a 5mm heel to toe drop this is a fast feeling low profile shoe without pushing you too far towards zero.
Moving to the upper, Scott has utilised the latest technologies to develop a mesh upper that is bonded rather than stitched to remove the risk of irritation and rubbing. The tough overlays also act as excellent support for the foot holding it nicely around the midfoot for a feeling of control without restriction. Scott has also closely considered the terrain that this shoe is going to be used in. The materials have been selected to be tough yet lightweight and there is also a significant toe bumper and protective rand around the base of the upper to protect against stones, roots and other potentially injurious debris. The lacing system and low profile tongue finish the shoe well with a close but not obtrusive closure.
All in all the Scott Supertrac RC looks set to light up the trail world this year and so far we have been very impressed with the fit, feel and performance. If you are looking for a lightweight yet protective training or racing shoe then the RC is definitely a shoe to try.
