Trail Running Jackets

Welcome to our Trail Running Jackets section at Castleberg Outdoors. We hope that our Trail Running Jackets section offers a comprehensive range of waterprofo running jackets and windproofs that cover all the conditions you could encounter for any range of activities where you are moving fast in the hills. 

Be it fell running, trail running, adventure racing, ultra running, general trail or fast hiking (and much more besides), we believe the running off road and in the hills presents more challenging conditions and that you require the right kit. In the main, our range of jackets - waterproof shell trail running jackets or windproof jackets are tailored to cope with the full range of conditions you may encounter in the hills - higher levels of rainfall, high winds, temperature extremes, rapid changes in conditions (not to mention combinations of all the preceding factors!). 

Given the above, getting the right Jacket for the conditions and your requirements is pretty important in our view. Our range of Trail Running Jackets caters for a range of requirements - levels of breathability, weather protection, insulation, budget and tastes.

What to look for in a trail running waterproof jacket:

1. Fabric

Fabric needs to be waterproof and breathable - trail running means you'll be working harder and potentially sweating more - you need a waterproof fabric that will cope with keeping the rain out and breathing properly too.

2. Hood

Any waterproof trail running jacket that we stock needs a good hood. Adjustability is key - it needs to fit you, allow you to see what's around you, remain on your head in the wind (and keep the water out!).

3. Fit

Fit is always important on trail running waterproof jackets. Ideally, the fit needs to be trim, athletic  and cut to allow you to run on the trails with the minimum of hindrance. You’ll be wearing this trail running jacket in foul weather and so it’s got to fit well in high winds, heavy rain (and both probably).

4. Features

Minimal jackets are great for low weight but do you need pockets to keep things in or warm your hands? Do you need attached mitts or extra hood volume for helmets? Some jackets are designed with multi sports in mind – they’ll have a dropped tail for biking as well as running features – ideal for getting the most out of your investment.
