| | Febuary (6th) - Team Castlberg Outdoors Update - Number 1 again in Open 5 Series | February (6th) Well done Team Castleberg Outdoors. The girls top the tables again!
Race 3 of the series of Open 5 races today in the Northern Dales saw 3 of our team competing hard in filthy weather. Jill Eccleston and Sharon McDonald in the Female Pairs and Mike Howarth in the Male Solo battled hard and stuck it out to the bitter end, with fantastic results.
Jill and Sharon came top again (2 out of 2 for the girls)- impressively dedicated training and amazing mental resilience (plus some pretty handy kit- Paramo Velez, Inov8 mudclaws rated highly today) paid off giving the girls a 50 point lead over 2nd place.
Mike Howarth took part in his first Open 5 race, and came in a fantastic 29th in a field of over 70 starters. He even went so far as to say he'd enjoyed the outing- I think he may have been the only one!
James Kenyon- team member 4- has only just returned from a couple of weeks skiing (and testing out Haglofs and Salomon skiing kit on our behalf!) so sat this one out. We are expecting great things from him next time round!
Thanks guys for all your hard work and dedication- it takes a special group of people to hang on in there through the stormy chaos of the Northern Dales today.

| Febuary (8th) - Team Castlberg Outdoors Update - Sharon's race report | Sunday 6th February OPEN 5 Kirkby Stephen The day started of bad and stayed that way, in fact I tell a lie, it got a lot worse.
A great turn out from Settle Harriers, Alex P, Jan W, John M, all going solo Tracy W and Chris H as Settles greatest mixed double act, Graham H and Peter M doing it for a laugh and Jill E and Sharon M doing it for the girls.
5 hours of mountain biking and running in the most horrendous weather imaginable. Comments from Alex P "one of the most hardest races I've done" hope he meant ever! Jill E " giving birth to Connie was more pleasurable" Sharon M " I nearly lost the will to live" Tracy W " ***************!!!!!!" Graham and Pater "Oh Dear"
Have a go at running or cycling backwards up a steep hill, the wind really was that bad or swimming down a river (paths and bridleways) with or without a bike, fully clothed, that kind of explains the conditions flooded terrain.
Anyway I will never look out of the window again and let the weather put me of a run (bike maybe, absolutely) after Sunday it really could not have thrown anything else at us, and after surviving 5 hours everything else would surely be easier, wouldn't it?
Results All the solo,s doing well with Alex P 4th place, John M 15th, Jan W 17th, out of the largest category. Tracy and Chris a very respectable 13th Even with Tracy's very bruised foot (another story), Sharon and Jill another 1st and Graham and Peter well "Oh Dear". 10 out of 10 for getting out there and doing it.
We were all smiling AFTERWARDS (because it was over) as they really are good events.
Sharon
