Topo shoes are a relatively new US-based company on the running shoe market and they have taken a fresh approach to running shoes and what they offer. Being a trail running specialist, we stock Topo trail running shoes and we really like what they offer.
First and foremost, being a new company, we are really impressed with the background to the company – TOPO was founded by Tony Post (ex Vibram) and with +30 years in the footwear industry together with a competitive background in running, Tony saw the need for shoes that offered something new but not radical. Based on practical, useful features, Topo trail running shoes offer 3 core elements that work with your foot’s natural biomechanics whilst maintaining protection from the trails and cushioning for comfort:
- Roomy Toe box – shoes don’t need to be snug around the toes and in particular, trail running shoes need to give you room for your toes to spread and to keep your toes clear of the front of the shoe during descents. Topo trail running shoes offer plenty of room around the toes together with a firm grip of the heel and midfoot to make sure the foot is securely fitted within the shoe.
- Low drop – a lower drop in the height of the shoe from heel to toe means a more natural style of running is promoted (avoiding the shock of landing solely on the heel). There’s still some elevation of the heel thought so the shoes are comfortable and not radical to change in to.
- Lightweight – Topo trail running shoes use ultra-light materials and high tech construction techniques to make the lightest possible shoe.
All in all the Topo trail running shoe range has a lot to offer – a wider, yet precise fit. Lightweight materials and low (but not zero drop) stack height.
