Our View – AKU Adapta Light GTX:
The AKU Adapta Light GTX is a lightweight 2-3 season walking boot with a great fit, excellent cushioning and a reliable Gore-Tex membrane beneath a durable suede and ripstop nylon upper.
AKU built this boot to earn the word Light at every layer of construction — not just on the label. The upper places 1.6mm suede exactly where the boot takes wear, ripstop nylon across the main panels to cut weight without cutting structure, and Air8000 mesh in the zones that need active airflow on the move.
The lasting board is 4mm nylon — thinner than the boards in the wider Adapta range, allowing the sole to flex naturally through each stride rather than working against it. The dual-density PU midsole and Vibram outsole are built by direct injection at AKU’s Montebelluna factory: no adhesives, no glue layers, no delamination point. The result is 530g per pair — a mid-cut Gore-Tex walking boot that moves across the hills rather than over them. Gore-Tex More Seasons handles three seasons of UK and European conditions reliably.
Specifications - AKU Adapta Light GTX:
- Three-material upper – 1.6mm suede, ripstop nylon, Air8000 mesh — each positioned by function: suede on the wear points for durability and surface protection, ripstop nylon across the main panels to reduce weight without reducing structural integrity, Air8000 mesh in the ventilation zones where the foot generates the most heat on long ascents
- AKU Elica natural stride system with 4mm nylon lasting board – the 4mm board is thinner than the lasting boards used in the Adapta NBK and Adapta SD, allowing the sole to flex through the toe-off phase rather than fighting it; the Elica last guides the foot’s natural rolling motion from the first day out, with no extended break-in period
- Gore-Tex More Seasons waterproofing – durable, certified waterproofing across three seasons of UK conditions: wet approach paths across boggy moorland, wet rock descents in the Lakes and Snowdonia, sustained rain on exposed Cairngorm ridges, keeps feet dry without the weight penalty of a heavier insulated membrane
- Direct-injection dual-density PU midsole and Vibram outsole at 530g per pair - midsole and outsole bonded at AKU’s Montebelluna factory without adhesives: no glue layers, no delamination risk at the midsole–outsole join, and a lighter finished construction than adhesive-bonded alternatives
- BEST FOR - Hillwalkers who want the ankle support and waterproofing of a mid-cut Gore-Tex boot without the weight — at 530g per pair, the lightest construction in the Adapta range and the boot for routes where every gram matters by mile fifteen
- Day hikers and weekend trekkers on moderate UK terrain — the Lake District, Snowdonia, the Brecons, the Cairngorm plateau — where agility and comfort over distance matter more than load-carrying stiffness
- Walkers stepping up from trail shoes or lightweight low-cuts to a mid-cut waterproof walking boot for the first time — the Elica last and flexible 4mm board make the transition to ankle support easier than stiffer constructions
