HILL WALKERS CHOICE...
Paramo produce probably the best waterproof jackets money can buy! OK, they are expensive but this needs to be looked at as an investment because from our experience a Paramo jacket will last you for years and years!
Fully waterproof, windproof and warmer than a shell jacket, the Alta III is the top-of-range walking jacket with features designed to maximise your protection and comfort. The slightly longer length is great for ensuring water runs off better, there are multiple pockets for essentials, hand warming and even big enough to carry an OS map for easy access. Slightly out of your budget? We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend any of the Paramo jackets…see the full range here.
Buying socks for Christmas is pretty standard but if you want to buy them some they will really appreciate then Darn Tough are a great choice. Stay safe when the weather turns wintery on all terrains with the brilliant Kahtoola range of ice spikes and crampons. Even around and about town ice can be a real risk and the NanoSpikes are a perfect choice for these situations as well as running and hiking on difficult winter terrain. Vest style running packs have made ultra-running so much more comfortable with the ability to carry even big kit requirements with ease. The whole range of Ultimate Direction race vests and packs has been hugely popular and we hear more and more positive feedback from our customers about them virtually every day. There is a capacity to suit every adventure from the stripped back TO Race Vest design to replace a bumbag with the added bonus of front mounted hydration bottles to the 45L Fastpack for epic multiday self-supported adventures. For the full range of trail running packs see our website here.
Every runner should try Injinji toesocks and even more so if they cover huge distances and/or suffer with blisters. The toe separation isn’t a gimmick, it is hugely effective at allowing your feet to spread and functionally naturally as well as preventing rubbing and friction between the toes. The design also means that the socks hardly move at all meaning no bunching or hot spots to cause problems over the long haul. Don’t forget you can get 4 for the price of 3 on ALL our socks as well! See all the Injijni styles and designs here.
The one thing you really can't do without if you’re into trail running is a good pair of shoes. Depending on the terrain you usually run on, the amount of cushioning you want and the shape of your feet you want to choose a shoe that is best suited to these meet all these demands.
We have a wide range to choose from with pretty much everything covered; The ultra-aggressive outsole on the Inov-8 X-Claw and La Sportiva Mutant/Crossover 2.0 will keep you upright on the worst terrain. The massively cushioned Hoka One One range are ideal for ultra-runners or those struggling with impact injuries. Altra shoes are perfect for anyone who has wide feet or prefers to allow their feet to spread naturally. For something a bit different but highly effective take a look at the On Running Shoe range which look unique but really perform. Great allrounders include the Scott Kinabalu (or the Supertrac version if you want more grip) and the Brooks Cascada which are capable of a true mix of all terrains to take you from road to trail. The full range of trail shoes we stock can be seen here.
