Sometimes you need a trail running shoe that prioritises impact protection and support without compromising on grip, responsiveness and fit. This is exactly what the Saucony Endorphin Trail offers, it isn't the lightest, most agile shoe available, but it will provide mile after mile of comfort and confidence.

Straight out of the box it is clear that the Saucony Endorphin Trail shoe is designed to steam roller any terrain thanks to its maximal cushioning and aggressive outsole design.

The Saucony Endorphin Trail is the first trail model to use the brands hugely impressive PWRRUN PB midsole which offers exceptional impact protection, cushioning every stride. The PWRRUN PB is also highly responsive, providing excellent energy return to push you forward with ease. Thanks to the materials density and stack height (36.5mm heel/32.5mm forefoot) any risk of feeling sharp stones or other trail debris through the shoes sole is almost entirely removed, leaving you to cruise over rough terrain.

What the extra stack height and midsole density also means is that the Saucony Endorphin Trail is a relatively stiff shoe, which is either loved or hated, depending on your personal preference. However, the Endorphin Trail never feels hard or sluggish which is very much thanks to the revolutionary SPEEDROLL technology which, in combination with the PWRRUN PB rebound, effortlessly propels you through every foot strike.

To offset the higher stack height the Saucony Endorphin Trail has a wider platform which makes the shoe feel extremely stable on technical terrain, but that does mean you lose some ground feel. Again this is a personal preference, but if you are looking for a stable, protective trail running shoe that can take on big distances in comfort this is a great choice.

An interesting and useful addition to the Endorphin Trail is the tough mesh net laminate that surrounds the shoes midsole providing protection against damage from sharp objects while you traverse rough terrain.

Fit wise the quick-fit trail sleeve bootie style upper hugs your foot like a glove helping to prevent rubbing or hot spots. We find there is little need to adjust the laces as the fit is so good. A real bonus for us is the removal of any risk of the shoes tongue sliding to one side and causing pressure points. Thin it maybe but the tongue provides ample protection. The all-in-one design also provides excellent protection against trail debris such as stones, grit and twigs getting inside.

The durable mesh upper protects well and is hard wearing, designed to withstand the toughest conditions and also features a rubber overlay around the toebox for additional protection against stubbing your toes on rocks etc.

Outsole wise, the full length PWRTRAC features a versatile lug configuration that is designed to provide traction and confidence on rough, technical climbs and descents. With 4.5mm deep lugs are plenty aggressive enough for a wide range of surfaces from wet, muddy fields to dry rocky tracks. It is also hard wearing so it should see you through a lot of miles.

Final features that top the Saucony Endorphin Trail off include a D-ring for gaiter attachment when conditions demand and materials sourced to reduce the shoes manufacturing impact on the environment.

The Saucony Endorphin Trail is a great addition to the brands trail range and we are sure that it will be a very popular training shoe for runners who run big distances and those that prefer a burly, protective shoe for demanding terrain. It offers excellent impact absorption, a dynamic push-off, outstanding grip on any terrain and materials that are sure to last a long time. See our full Saucony range here.
