Our View – OMM Aether Jacket:

The OMM Aether Jacket is made using Dyneema, built for mountain runners, lightweight alpinists and those looking for the best weather protection for the lightest weight.

Constructed from Dyneema reinforced Nylon and paired with a highly breathable membrane and all the features you would expect from a mountaineering jacket but tipping the scales lighter than most other running jackets, the Aether ticks a lot of boxes.

Equally at home on a rain-lashed moor as it is on an exposed alpine ridge or on a winter traverse of the Pennine way, the Aether boasts the robustness of a much heavier mountain shell with the weight and packability of much flimsier jackets. That is all thanks to the incredible physics behind Dyneema. The world’s strongest fibre, Dyneema is 15x stronger than steel but has a weight closer to silk. Commonly found in ballistic body armour, climbing harnesses and yacht rigging, Dyneema delivers an incredible lightweight strength and durability.

It is this durability that also makes the Aether one of our most sustainable jackets to date. Paired with the now industry-standard PFC-Free DWR and PFAS-Free membrane; Dyneema is made from recycled materials and opens up the possibility of end-to-end sustainability and circular manufacture, minimising waste and reducing the impact of both manufacture and use.

• PERFORMANCE SHELL - Using a 3-layer construction, with a tough outer shell, waterproof but breathable membrane and a woven fabric backer, the Aether is built for mountain runners, lightweight alpinists and those looking for the best protection for the lightest weight. The woven backer holds internal condensation away from the skin, unlike lighter weight 2-layer options often found in running jackets, making for a much more comfortable experience.
• SUSTAINABILITY IN STRENGTH - Dyneema® is constructed from recycled materials and the high-grade Nylon can be recycled at the end of life into more high-grade product with minimal wastage. Thanks to the high levels of durability, the end of life for the Aether is a long way off. Ultimately, the most sustainable jacket is the one that lasts the longest.
