Our View – OMM Kamleika Jacket:

The OMM Kamleika Jacket has taken all the knowledge that OMM has gained over the last 20 years of designing and making stretch waterproof clothing and combined it into an exceptional trail and mountain running jacket.

The Kamleika Jacket has all the protective features normally found in much heavier, mountain jackets but in a lightweight design to give you confidence you’ll be fully protected when you need it in the mountains.

The jacket features an adjustable, peaked hood that allows you sculpt the protection to meet the direction of the rain while the internal cradle holds it in place. The thumbloop system allows the sleeves to be pulled over the back of hands or sealed closed when not in use. The dynamic droptail system means you can draw the jacket tight on the waist whilst retaining full coverage. 

The material is highly breathable, lightweight and now extremely durable it is designed to be worn all day should it be needed. Trusted and tested this is a jacket for the toughest days in the mountains.

Now in it’s 6th Generation, the original Kamleika stretch waterproof was first released in 2005 and rapidly attracted many fans, not to mention a few imitators. Known for its unmatched next-to-skin comfort, freedom of movement and protection in harsh conditions; the Kamleika has been specifically designed to the demands of the mountain runner. Named after the garment worn by the Aleut people of the high Arctic on the shores of the Bearing Sea, though no longer constructed from the innards of sea otters; like the Aleuts, mountain runners require a waterproof and protective, yet lightweight and packable layer that is unrestrictive and moves with them.

The 5th generation of Kamleika introduced the tough Nylon face fabric whilst the 6th now includes a PFAS-free membrane and PFC-free DWR treatment. This has allowed us to drastically reduce the environmental impact of the jacket’s manufacture and use, no longer using the “forever chemicals” that are incredibly harmful to the natural world but without compromising the performance of the jacket in the harshest conditions.
